BREAKING: A’Court stops execution of judgment freeing Kanu 28th October 2022

  The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Friday stopped the execution of its own judgment which faulted the rendition of Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria and also set aside the terrorism charges against him. Justicea Tsanami in a ruling upheld the application of the Federal Government and ordered that the execution of the judgment be put on hold. The Federal Government had applied that the execution of the judgment be suspended pending the resolution of its appeal lodged at the Supreme CoJustice Tsanami in the briefing ruling held that the counter affidavit filed against the Federal Government’s application by Kanu’s legal team was misleading.  The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reversed the March 8 judgment by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, sacking Governor David Umahi and his Deputy, Barr Kelechi Eric Igwe for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). A three-member panel of the appellate court held in a judgment on Friday that the nation’s Constitution did not provide any punishment for a Governor or Deputy Governor, who defected from the party on which platform he/she was voted into office.

Netflix wants me to produce Anikulapo series - Kunle Afolayan

  Nigeria filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, has revealed that the popular movie streaming platform, Netflix, is urging him to produce a series from his latest movie Anikulapo. He stated that he initially wanted to make the movie a series, but Netflix told him to make a movie first, and if it became a success, a series would be developed. Afolayan made this known in an interview on Friday The filmmaker said, “I’ve been working on Aníkúlápó for six years. Originally, I wanted to make a series, but I shopped it and kept telling people that this movie would be bigger than Game of Thrones. “Eventually, Netflix told me to make a movie first since I believed in the project that much, and if it became a success, we’d develop a series.” ‘Anikulapo’, set in the 17th century ancient Oyo kingdom, premiered on Netflix on September 30, 2022. A week after its premiere, the movie became the most-watched non-English film on Netflix, with a cumulative streaming 8.7m.

Nigeria witnessed a drastic decline in the killings by non-state actors in the last two weeks (August 14 – 27) as only 10 persons were killed against the dozens recorded in past weeks. The figure, which is one of the lowest in 2022 further signifies a decline when compared to the previous week when 15 persons were killed. One of the weeks in the first quarter recorded zero incidents. The reduction in killings comes weeks after President Muhammadu Buhari said his orders to security chiefs to stop attacks in the country were yielding the desired results. In the same period more than 57 terrorists were killed in different operations conducted from 11 to 25 August in the North-east, Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said. US Audit regulator signs agreement with China

  The US audit regulator has signed an agreement with Chinese regulators, taking a first step toward inspecting and investigating registered accounting firms in China and Hong Kong. The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) said it was the most detailed and prescriptive agreement the regulator has ever reached with China. US regulators have for long been demanding access to audit papers of Chinese companies listed in the United States, but Beijing has been reluctant to let overseas regulators inspect accounting firms, citing security concerns.
