Nigeria witnessed a drastic decline in the killings by non-state actors in the last two weeks (August 14 – 27) as only 10 persons were killed against the dozens recorded in past weeks. The figure, which is one of the lowest in 2022 further signifies a decline when compared to the previous week when 15 persons were killed. One of the weeks in the first quarter recorded zero incidents. The reduction in killings comes weeks after President Muhammadu Buhari said his orders to security chiefs to stop attacks in the country were yielding the desired results. In the same period more than 57 terrorists were killed in different operations conducted from 11 to 25 August in the North-east, Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said. Nigeria imports $3.49bn fish, eggs, milk, others

Fish, poultry eggs, milk, dairy and fish products worth $3.49bn were imported into Nigeria in the last two years, according to data from the International Trade Centre. Within the time under review, fish products worth $2.14bn were imported into the nation, while diary products valued at $1.35bn were brought into the country. According to the international trade organisation, the fish products included: live fish, frozen fish, fish fillets and other fish meat, whether or not minced, fresh, chilled or frozen; fish, dried, salted or in brine; smoked fish; flours, meals, and pellets of fish.   NDLEA Operatives Arrest Lagos Airport Cleaner Who Leads Drug Syndicate Channels Television   Updated August 28, 2022   Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested a cleaner at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos, Ohiagu Sunday, who leads a drug syndicate at the international wing of the airport. NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi in a statement on Sunday, said the suspect was nabbed on Tuesday 23rd August following the arrest of an intending passenger on Airpeace flight to Dubai, UAE, Obinna Jacob Osita who was arrested with three bags, two of which contained eight blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 4.25kg concealed in cassava product, garri and crayfish. US Audit regulator signs agreement with China

  The US audit regulator has signed an agreement with Chinese regulators, taking a first step toward inspecting and investigating registered accounting firms in China and Hong Kong. The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) said it was the most detailed and prescriptive agreement the regulator has ever reached with China. US regulators have for long been demanding access to audit papers of Chinese companies listed in the United States, but Beijing has been reluctant to let overseas regulators inspect accounting firms, citing security concerns. The decision marks a major thaw in US-China business relations and will be a huge relief for hundreds of Chinese companies and investors who have invested billions of dollars in the firms that have a chance to retain access to the world’s deepest capital markets.
